The hosts chased down Pakistan's 207-run target with ease, getting there in 19.3 overs. Opener Reeza Hendricks’ maiden T20 century, 117 off 63 balls, was the driving force, while the unbeaten Rassie van der Dussen (66 not out off 38) provided the finishing touches.

It will be his fourth Olympics, something the 32-year-old never imagined to achieve when he started his journey from the modest lanes of Mithapur, a town in Punjab.

"When we won a medal in Tokyo, it was like a tonic for hockey in India. This time our responsibility has increased and everyone knows how much love and respect we have received after that medal," Harmanpreet told PTI Bhasha.

With that, the Proteas won a bilateral Twenty20 series for the first time in more than two years. They had relied on David Milleracegame888's splendid knock and George Linde's all-round show in the opener to carve out an 11-run win, and lead the three-match series by an unassailable 2-0 margin.
