CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Rolando Uy has ordered the suspension of work at City Hall and classes at all levels in public schools on Monday due to the national peace rally spearheaded by the Iglesia ni Cristo or INC.

The decision, according to Uy, is intended “to maintain peace and order and preserve the comfort and convenience of the students, parents, and residents of the city” who are expected to grapple with some daylong disruptions.

However, Misamis Oriental Gov. Peter Unabia informed Uy that the provincial capitol cannot join the work cancellation on Monday as they are set to open the Kuyamis Festival.

Taking their cue from Uy’s order, several private schools suspended classes on Monday. These include Jesuit-run Xavier University-Ateneo de Cagayan, Lourdes College, Rosevale School, and Corpus Christi School.

Apart from suspending classes, Xavier University also suspended work on Monday, as did the Cagayan de Oro City Water District.

To assist journalists in transmitting news materials from the rally, the Cagayan de Oro Press Club is offering its facilities, powered by a fixed-line data connection, to both members and non-members.

In a statement on Friday, the DOTr said it had inked a transaction advisory service agreement with the World Bank Group unit to lay out the airport project’s terms of reference (TOR).
